Xijiang 23-1 Platform Ultra-High Pressure Water Anti-Corrosion Project
In 2019, the Xijiang 23-1 platform employed high-pressure water technology for the first time in its anti-corrosion project, marking the introduction of this method to offshore oil platforms.
The project involves corrosion protection for over 10,000 square meters, including the 18.5-meter unloading deck, desanding pump area, derrick area and drilling area. Compared to traditional methods, high-pressure water jetting is more portable, requires a smaller isolation area, effectively removes soluble substances, and provides better protection for the environment and platform equipment. The advantages are as followed:
1.Portability: High-pressure water technology only requires freshwater and a water hose for operation, eliminating the need for additional material transportation and waste disposal. This significantly reduces transportation costs and time, while achieving working efficiency 2 or 3 times higher than traditional methods.
2.Application in smaller isolation area: traditional sandblasting generates severe dust and fragmented sand due to the physical impact of mineral sand. When there are other operation ongoing in adjacent areas, a distance of tens of meters is required for isolation. However, high-pressure water technology only produces a water jet at the nozzle, which turns into water mist of 50 cm and completely dissipates within a few meters. This means that only a few square meters of isolation area are required, effectively avoiding interference with other operations in the same module and improving efficiency of platform maintenance.
3.More effective removal of soluble substances: High-pressure water technology, using only freshwater as a material, can effectively remove soluble substances remaining on metal surfaces, thus extending the lifespan of the coating system. Additionally, this method does not generate additional dust and particles, providing more effective protection for the environment and platform equipment.
